Social Security Disability

Baehman Law is qualified and experienced in Sociality Security Disability claims, in both SSDI and SSI. Our Twin Cities area firm can provide you the needed legal counsel and representation for attaining your benefits successfully.

According to the Social Security Administration, in order to be entitled to Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) or Social Security Income (SSI) benefits, you must demonstrate that you are disabled. The Social Security Administration defines disability as “the inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment(s) which can be expected to result in death or which has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months.” Both children and adults may qualify for benefits.

Applying For Benefits

We can assist you in applying for Social Security Disability benefits. If you would prefer to apply for Social Security Disability benefits yourself, you can either complete an application online (www.ssa.gov) or contact the Social Security Administration by telephone at 651-447-6657. If you contact them by telephone, you can schedule an appointment to complete your application over the telephone, and they will assist you in completing your application. When applying for Social Security Disability benefits, include all of your medical conditions and all of the medical providers with whom you have treated.

If you have already applied and have been denied, we can assist you in appealing the decision. There are four levels of appeal: reconsideration, hearing, Appeals Council review and federal court. If you would like to appeal a decision, it is important to understand the time frame in which to appeal. If you do not do so within the time limit, then you may lose your right to do so. If that happens, then the last decision made is final. You can subsequently reapply, but then you start the whole process over again.
