Protecting Injured Workers
And Their Families For The Short And Long Term

How many families still have one breadwinner?

In the past, it was very common for families to exist with just a single breadwinner who earned all of the income for that family. Generally speaking, wives would stay home to help to raise the children, while husbands would go to work to provide the income that their families required.

Things have changed over time, however. Today, both mothers and fathers will work. It’s much more common for families to have two breadwinners. But this doesn’t mean that single-income families are a thing of the past. In fact, one study found that this was still the rule for roughly 1/3 of married couples who had children.

The impact of an injury

This is important to consider because an injury on the job can be even more problematic. If someone is the only source of income for their family, and they get injured and are no longer able to work, how does their family make ends meet? How do they address things like mounting medical bills when they have no income until that person has recovered? How are they even supposed to pay the bills, such as just keeping the lights on or just paying the mortgage on their home?

This is when workers’ compensation becomes so critical. A worker who has been injured on the job may be able to get compensation for at least a portion of their wages, along with their medical bills. Workers’ comp benefits can take away some of the main financial stressors that families are going to face. This is beneficial even if there are two incomes, as a drastic reduction in income can definitely be problematic, but it is especially useful when it is replacing the family’s only income source.

As such, workers who have been injured definitely need to know about all of the legal options at their disposal. Legal guidance can help you understand and obtain workers’ compensation to keep your family afloat.
